Girl Band: Linear Abstract Painting,

Girl Band explores the paintings of four artists, who stretch the limits of the traditional abstract language of painted lines and bands.
Stephanie Buhmann, curator, introduces the work of Pat Badt, Marthe Keller, Julie Shapiro, and Kim Uchiyama, revealing a shared interest in the primacy of vision, the phenomenon of color and the materiality of the support.
The interlacing patterns of lines are reminiscent of weaving and textiles, but the ideas imbedded in them are far from traditional. Think of stretching elastic Bands, reverberating, bouncing.
Exhibition January-February, 2014 at Martin Art Gallery, Baker center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA

The Coach with Six Insides

"This is a large one-person show with works ranging from an 18 foot tarp to a small painted panel. Using the contents of the traditional painting studio - paint, linen, panel in her MFA thesis exhibition, Marthe Keller integrates a variety of industrial matter (vinyl, acetate, rubber and plastic) in the process of discovering a painting's structure...These works integrate their materiality with an ever-evolving richness of purpose and patience of execution. Their physical presence in the world acts to ground us more deeply in it." Kim Uchiyama

Corso Ricorso Color Catalog

Corso Ricorso is a catalog with Essays by Lilly Wei and Elisabetta Longari accompanying the exhibition which took place in Italy and Germany in 2008 and 2009. The theme of Corso Ricorso is the brushstroke and its multiple returns, echoing the artist’s continuing home-coming to Europe. Of this Marthe says,“Repetition of the stroke gives the work life and breath, opening the space of painting against the banality of mastery, aiming instead for the body’s truth, with the accidents of my own reach and touch.”
